Urban foxes are widespread in British cities. Human-wildlife conflict, disease management, and culling debates raise important welfare questions for these adaptable animals.
Urban fox welfare involves multiple challenges. Mange causes intense itching, hair loss, and secondary infection - suffering that can be addressed by leaving treatment bait (homeopathic arsenic preparations available from the Fox Project). Road mortality causes acute injury and death. Culling of urban foxes causes unnecessary suffering without population effect and is rejected by most wildlife welfare organisations.
