Lameness is one of the most prevalent and painful welfare problems in dairy cows, with hoof health management being central to prevention and treatment.
Lameness causes significant and chronic pain, impairing normal feeding, social behaviour and reproductive function. Prevention through mobility scoring, routine hoof trimming, clean walkway design and prompt treatment of identified cases is essential. Mobility scoring at least every 2 months allows early intervention before lameness becomes severe.
