Noise phobia affects millions of dogs, causing significant suffering during thunderstorms and fireworks. Effective treatments are underused.
Noise phobia causes acute and repeated suffering for a very large proportion of the dog population. It is also highly treatable, yet few dogs receive evidence-based behavioral intervention. The welfare impact of each fireworks season for affected dogs is substantial - equivalent to repeated episodes of acute terror. Proactive treatment and legislative controls on fireworks both contribute to welfare improvement.
