Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) causes painful urinary symptoms. Stress reduction, diet, and hydration management prevent most cases.
FLUTD causes acute pain, distress, and in severe cases life-threatening urethral obstruction. The strong stress-disease link means that environmental welfare improvements - enrichment, reduced conflict, predictable routines - are genuinely therapeutic as well as preventive. Addressing the whole cat's wellbeing, not just the urinary symptoms, is the most effective approach.
