Despite scientific consensus on fish nociception, policy lags far behind. Closing the gap between evidence and practice would benefit trillions of animals.
The gap between what fish pain science knows and what policy requires is one of the largest welfare governance failures of our era. The combination of high individual numbers and demonstrated pain capacity creates an enormous welfare priority that legislation has barely begun to address. Accelerating policy change through advocacy, research support, and consumer pressure is urgently needed.
