Open access to animal welfare research and data accelerates knowledge sharing and advocacy. Data science approaches are transforming welfare monitoring and impact assessment.
Open access to animal welfare science is itself a welfare intervention - research locked behind paywalls cannot inform the farmer practices, policy decisions, and consumer choices that reduce animal suffering. The movement toward open science in welfare research, combined with data science tools for analysis and visualization, creates the information infrastructure needed for evidence-based welfare improvement at scale.
