Pangolins rescued from trafficking operations face extraordinary rehabilitation challenges as highly specialized animals that rarely survive captivity even with expert care.
Pangolin rehabilitation represents one of the most challenging problems in wildlife rescue. These specialized animals eat exclusively specific invertebrate species, cannot tolerate the stress of captivity well, and are vulnerable to respiratory infections from unfamiliar bacteria. Even dedicated expert care often cannot prevent stress-related death. Prevention through demand reduction and trafficking enforcement is therefore far more effective for pangolin welfare than rehabilitation of rescued individuals.
