Invertebrate conservation and individual welfare intersect in complex ways that welfare advocates are beginning to engage with more seriously.
Invertebrate conservation is fundamentally about preserving species and ecosystems, but individual invertebrate welfare is emerging as a genuine consideration. As our understanding of invertebrate sentience grows, conservation interventions need to incorporate welfare dimensions - just as vertebrate conservation already does. Minimising individual suffering during conservation operations represents an important evolution in conservation practice.
