Parrots are highly intelligent, long-lived birds whose welfare commonly suffers from boredom, isolation, and lack of appropriate stimulation in captivity.
Parrots are among the most cognitively complex of all companion animals and suffer profoundly from environments that fail to meet their behavioural needs. Feather destructive behaviour, screaming, and aggression are often symptoms of psychological distress rather than personality traits. The combination of high intelligence, social need, and long lifespan makes parrots poorly suited to typical pet keeping conditions.
