The brown tree snake inadvertently introduced to Guam caused extinction of most native bird species and continues to cause harm to wildlife and humans.
Invasive species management often involves lethal control of individual animals who are not culpable for ecological damage caused by human-mediated introductions. The welfare of brown tree snakes used in control programs deserves consideration alongside ecological goals. Humane trapping and rapid killing methods should be required standards.
