Early socialisation of foals establishes the behavioural foundation for lifetime welfare and human-horse relationships.
Poorly socialised foals become anxious, difficult to handle adult horses that experience more stress during veterinary procedures, transport and competition. Early positive experiences with humans and novel stimuli create horses better able to cope with domestic life. Good socialisation is an investment in lifetime welfare.
