Armed conflict and humanitarian crises cause catastrophic harm to both wild and domestic animals, with welfare response capacity severely limited.
Animals in conflict zones experience the full range of welfare failures: physical injury, starvation, thirst, fear and loss of social bonds. Response capacity is severely limited by insecurity and logistics. Preventing conflict through its root causes and building resilient agricultural systems are ultimately the most effective animal welfare interventions.
