Access to and use of analgesics for farm animal pain management varies widely across UK livestock production.
Pain management on farms is a rapidly evolving area where practice still lags behind evidence. Procedures routinely performed without pain relief - disbudding, castration, dehorning, tail docking - cause pain that analgesics substantially reduce. Cost, access and awareness barriers can all be addressed through farm health plan integration and training.
