Ducks are semi-aquatic birds whose welfare is significantly compromised by denial of water for swimming and bathing.
Denying ducks access to water for swimming and bathing fails to meet their basic biological needs. Preening in open water is essential for feather waterproofing and condition. Ducks without swimming access show physical signs of deprivation including eye and nasal problems, poor feather condition and elevated stress. Minimum head immersion access is insufficient.
