Pastern dermatitis (mud fever) is a painful skin condition in horses caused by prolonged exposure to wet, muddy ground.
Mud fever causes significant pain, lameness, and secondary infection when untreated. In wet climates horses are particularly vulnerable during winter. Good pasture management, rotation, and early treatment protect horses from this avoidable condition.
