Badger cubs are born in late winter and are dependent on sett integrity and maternal care throughout their first year.
Badger cubs are entirely dependent on their sett environment and their mother's care during their first months. Sett disturbance, road casualties, and illegal persecution cause orphaned cubs that rarely survive without specialist rehabilitation. Strong sett protection and road-crossing mitigation are key welfare interventions.
