Gibbons are the most agile of all primates, swinging through the forest canopy in the wild, and their welfare requires enclosures enabling similar locomotion.
Gibbons confined in low-ceilinged or structurally simple enclosures cannot express their most fundamental locomotor behaviour. This causes physical deconditioning and psychological frustration. Gibbon welfare requires tall, complex structures enabling full brachiation and pair housing that respects social bond integrity.
