Rabbits have complex behavioural needs for digging, foraging, and hiding that are rarely met in intensive farming systems.
Farmed rabbits in barren systems are deprived of the ability to express their most fundamental behaviours. Providing hay, hiding places, and gnawing materials in enriched park systems addresses core welfare needs and represents the minimum standard for commercial rabbit production. Regulatory action is needed to mandate enrichment.
