Bovine viral diarrhoea virus is a significant cause of cattle disease, reproductive loss, and immunosuppression, with welfare implications across the herd.
Cattle persistently infected with BVD have severely compromised immune systems and frequently develop multiple simultaneous diseases causing significant suffering. The welfare of PI calves themselves, and of herds exposed to them, is substantially improved through systematic BVD eradication. Eradication is one of the most impactful cattle welfare investments available.
