Cheetahs are among the most stress-sensitive large cats, and captive management must address their unique physiological vulnerability to chronic stress.
Cheetah welfare in captivity is uniquely challenging due to their extreme sensitivity to chronic stress. Reproductive failure, behavioural abnormalities, and health problems in captive cheetahs are well-documented and largely attributable to chronic stress from inadequate space, social instability, and limited opportunity for high-speed movement. Addressing these root causes is essential for welfare improvement.
