Vaccination against key bovine respiratory pathogens is one of the most cost-effective welfare interventions for cattle at high risk of BRD.
Vaccination prevents BRD rather than treating it after welfare harm has occurred. Prevention is always the welfare-preferred approach. Respiratory disease causes significant acute pain and malaise that is often underrecognised. Implementing a targeted vaccination programme based on disease history and risk assessment is among the most impactful welfare investments available to cattle producers.
