EHV causes significant welfare impacts across its clinical presentations. Respiratory disease causes fever and exercise intolerance. Abortion is distressing and causes loss of foetus. Neurological disease causes progressive incapacitation and often requires euthanasia. Vaccination reduces respiratory disease but current vaccines do not fully prevent neurological disease.
