Scientific understanding of feline play behaviour informs better enrichment design. Evidence-based enrichment improves welfare for indoor cats.
Indoor cats without adequate play opportunities experience frustration of predatory motivation that can manifest as aggression, hyperactivity, or lethargy. Providing play that satisfies the complete predatory sequence - including a simulated catch with a treat - improves psychological welfare. Scientific understanding of feline play allows more effective enrichment design.
