Wolverines are solitary wide-ranging mustelids whose welfare in captivity requires substantial space and enrichment reflecting their natural territories of hundreds of kilometres.
Wolverine welfare in captivity is extremely challenging given their natural territory size and solitary aggressive nature. Only facilities with large, complex exhibits and species-specific expertise should attempt to house wolverines, as smaller exhibits fundamentally fail to meet their welfare needs.
