Ducks are waterfowl with strong motivations to interact with water for bathing, preening and feeding, needs often unmet in intensive systems.
Denying ducks adequate water access prevents essential self-maintenance behaviours and causes suffering through inability to clear nasal passages and maintain feather condition. Provision of open water is a fundamental welfare requirement for ducks.
