Cranial cruciate ligament rupture is the most common orthopaedic injury in dogs, causing significant lameness and welfare harm.
CCL rupture causes acute lameness and chronic pain that significantly impairs welfare. Surgical stabilisation followed by appropriate rehabilitation provides the best long-term welfare outcomes for most affected dogs. Non-surgical management is appropriate only for very small or inactive dogs.
