Liver abscesses are a significant welfare problem in feedlot cattle linked to high-concentrate diets causing subacute rumen acidosis.
Liver abscesses represent chronic subclinical welfare harm affecting large proportions of feedlot cattle. The subclinical nature means welfare compromise goes unrecognised. Dietary management preventing subacute acidosis prevents this welfare harm as well as production loss.
