Fly strike is a severe welfare problem in sheep, causing extreme pain and rapid death if untreated. Prevention and early detection are highly effective and commercially important.
Fly strike causes excruciating suffering. Prevention through insecticide application, breeding, and management is far more welfare-effective than treatment of established strike, which often still results in significant suffering before resolution.
