Myxomatosis and Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD) are both fatal viral diseases of rabbits that are preventable through vaccination and biosecurity.
Myxomatosis causes grotesque swelling and prolonged suffering over days to weeks. RVHD causes rapid haemorrhage and death, often with the rabbit appearing healthy until shortly before dying. Both diseases are completely preventable with regular vaccination. Even rabbits kept indoors face real risk from insect vectors.
