Lambing supervision is one of the highest-impact interventions in sheep farming, with skilled stockmanship at birth preventing the majority of neonatal lamb deaths.
Newborn lambs are highly vulnerable to hypothermia, starvation and rejection in the first hours of life. Skilled, timely supervision allows farmers to assist difficult births, ensure colostrum intake, correct mismothering, and warm hypothermic lambs. Each intervention prevents what would otherwise be prolonged suffering and death.
