Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a major cause of upper respiratory tract disease and oral ulceration in cats, with vaccination providing important protection against common strains.
FCV causes mouth ulcers that make eating painful, combined with respiratory signs that reduce quality of life. Virulent strains cause severe systemic disease. Vaccination provides important protection and is part of core vaccination recommendations for all cats. In multi-cat settings, identification and management of chronic carriers reduces exposure of vulnerable individuals.
