Second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) accumulate in predators and scavengers through the food chain, causing internal bleeding deaths in raptors, foxes, and other wildlife.
SGAR poisoning causes a prolonged and painful death through internal hemorrhage, affecting not only target rodents but entire food chains of predators and scavengers. Many of the most affected species — barn owls, red kites, otters — are conservation priorities. The suffering caused extends far beyond the intended target, making SGARs a significant wildlife welfare concern with readily available alternatives.
