Welfare Considerations

Urethral obstruction causes excruciating pain from bladder distension, along with systemic toxaemia. Cats in urinary crisis suffer acutely and deteriorate rapidly. Emergency deobstruction under anaesthesia is essential for survival. Prevention through wet food feeding, adequate hydration, and stress reduction significantly reduces risk.
