The resulting body proportions cause chronic pain from joint disorders and cardiovascular strain. Birds struggle to move to food and water, making resource access stressful. Transitioning to slower-growing breeds, improving litter management, and reducing stocking densities are the most impactful welfare improvements available in turkey production.
