Key Facts

Wild animal welfare is shaped by both natural and human-caused factors

Wildlife management increasingly incorporates welfare alongside conservation goals
Individual wild animal welfare and population-level conservation can sometimes require different approaches

Welfare Considerations

Wild animal welfare presents unique challenges - animals cannot be directly managed and natural suffering is part of their existence. However, human-caused suffering is preventable and should be minimised. Welfare-conscious wildlife management, habitat protection, and reduced human-wildlife conflict all improve outcomes for wild animals while respecting their ecological role.
