Bovine anaplasmosis is a tick-transmitted blood disease causing severe anaemia in cattle, with significant welfare implications in tropical and subtropical farming systems.
Anaplasmosis causes acute suffering through rapidly progressing anaemia - affected cattle are weak, breathless, and often febrile. Mortality can be high without treatment. In tropical farming systems where the disease is endemic, systematic tick control and early detection through monitoring can prevent much of this suffering.
