Bovine leukemia virus causes lymphoma in a proportion of infected cattle. Management focuses on reducing transmission and monitoring affected animals.
Cattle developing BLV-associated lymphoma suffer from progressive weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, and internal tumors. The condition is ultimately fatal. In herds with high BLV prevalence, biosecurity measures that prevent transmission reduce the number of cattle that progress to lymphoma and suffer its consequences.
