Tilapia is the most widely farmed fish species globally, but intensive production systems raise significant welfare concerns.
Tilapia receive minimal welfare consideration despite being farmed at enormous scale. The combination of high stocking densities, disease pressure, and limited welfare standards means many tilapia experience significant suffering throughout their lives. Given the scale of tilapia production, even modest welfare improvements would benefit enormous numbers of fish.
