Pregnancy scanning to identify litter size allows targeted nutrition and management that dramatically improves lamb survival and ewe welfare.
The welfare of triplet-bearing ewes and their lambs is substantially improved by targeted management following pregnancy scanning. Without scanning, triplet-bearing ewes receive inadequate nutrition and are at high risk of pregnancy toxaemia, a severely debilitating and often fatal condition. Pregnancy scanning is a high-impact welfare intervention with additional economic benefits.
