Scientific evidence for pain and sentience in invertebrates is growing, challenging traditional assumptions and expanding our moral circle.
The evidence that many invertebrates have the capacity for negative experiences is growing and increasingly accepted by the scientific community. If even a fraction of invertebrate species can suffer, the scale of potential welfare concern is immense given the billions of invertebrates farmed, captured, and killed daily. Applying the precautionary principle to invertebrate welfare is increasingly defensible.
