Leishmaniosis is a severe, often fatal parasitic disease spread by sandflies in Mediterranean and tropical regions, now threatening UK with climate change.
Leishmaniosis causes prolonged, painful illness and death in dogs without effective prevention or early treatment. For dogs in or travelling to endemic regions, parasite prevention and vaccination dramatically reduce welfare risk. Climate change is expanding the disease range northward.
