Farmers as stewards of pig welfare hold a responsibility that deserves support, recognition, and enabling conditions.
Farmers who care about pig welfare and have the knowledge, tools, and economic conditions to act on that care are the most powerful welfare agents in the food system. Supporting farmer welfare stewardship through training, economic incentives, and recognition produces more welfare improvement than adversarial advocacy alone. Farmers deserve support as welfare partners.
