Gut health is a critical welfare and production priority in pig farming. Microbiome disruption, diarrhoea, and intestinal inflammation cause significant pain and compromise immunity throughout the production cycle.
Gut disease causes significant pain and welfare suffering through diarrhoea, cramping, and systemic illness. Supporting gut health through nutrition, microbiome management, and reduced antibiotic use is both a welfare and public health priority. Pigs with good gut health show better growth, immunity, and behavioural welfare across all subsequent life stages.
