Dog Welfare and Responsible Rescue Rehoming

Rescue dog rehoming requires careful matching of dog and owner to maximise welfare outcomes. Thorough assessment and ongoing support prevent failed rehomings and welfare deterioration.

Key Facts

Approximately 20-25% of rescue dogs are returned within the first year of adoption
Return to rescue is stressful for dogs and reduces their future rehoming prospects
Temperament assessment in rescue environments may not reflect home behaviour accurately
Post-adoption support from rescue organisations significantly improves rehoming success
Many rescue dogs have trauma histories requiring patient, positive behaviour management

Welfare Considerations

Responsible rescue rehoming requires investment in assessment, matching and aftercare. Organisations that invest in this infrastructure prevent enormous welfare costs from failed rehomings and dogs cycling through rescue.

What You Can Do

Choose rescue organisations with robust adoption assessment and post-adoption support
Be patient with newly rehomed rescue dogs and seek behaviour support early if problems arise
Support rescue organisations financially to enable investment in assessment and aftercare
