Trap-neuter-return and responsible homing programmes are the most humane approaches to managing feral and stray cat populations.
Feral cats suffer from infectious diseases including FIV and FeLV, starvation, and road casualties. Lethal control removes individual animals but does not reduce populations as surviving animals breed to fill the ecological space. TNR stabilises populations while eliminating the suffering of reproductive cycles and territorial conflict. It is the most evidence-based and humane approach to population management.
