Overview of the philosophical and practical dimensions of wild animal suffering at scale.
Wild animal suffering at scale is one of the most philosophically and practically challenging issues in animal welfare. The sheer scale of negative experiences in wild animal populations exceeds all human-caused animal welfare problems combined. While intervention at scale is not currently feasible, targeted interventions including wildlife vaccination, contraception, and habitat management demonstrate the principle. Research and advocacy in this area are growing.
