Overview of canine dental disease prevention through home care and professional veterinary dentistry.
Canine dental disease is one of the most prevalent sources of unrecognised chronic pain in companion dogs. Owners frequently do not recognise dental pain, leading to under-treatment. Prevention through regular home care and veterinary dental assessment is more effective and welfare-positive than treating advanced disease. The welfare case for routine dental care throughout a dog's life is strong and underappreciated.
