Poultry welfare research in 2026 is focused on keel bone fracture prevention, breed reform evidence, precision welfare monitoring, and slaughter welfare optimisation. Keel bone fractures affect a large proportion of commercial laying hens and cause chronic pain. Research on genetic, nutritional, and housing factors is building the evidence base for prevention. Translating research into commercial practice requires both strong evidence and effective extension mechanisms.
