Overview of modern rabbit housing welfare standards and alternatives to traditional hutches.
Rabbit housing welfare has undergone a significant reassessment as scientific evidence on rabbit space, behaviour, and social needs has built. Traditional hutches are now considered inadequate by welfare organisations and many veterinary bodies. Modern rabbit systems combining larger hutches with attached secure runs, or indoor housing, provide better welfare. Owner education and retail guidance are needed to shift the standard of rabbit housing provision.
