Overview of purple sandpiper welfare as a specialist rocky shore wading bird.
Purple sandpiper welfare is closely linked to rocky intertidal habitat quality and disturbance levels at favoured sites. Their high site fidelity makes individual wintering sites particularly important for welfare. Disturbance from coastal recreation at rocky shores reduces feeding efficiency and energy acquisition. Conservation actions include responsible coastal recreation and protection of key wintering sites from development.
